Business Domains
Dataedo Business Domains help you distribute your data assets according to their organizational relevance. The Sales and HR teams at your company are probably using different data to inform their decision and operations. As the differentiation between Business and Data domains is mostly conceptual, we want to use this section to present you with some practical use cases of Business Domains showing the benefits of this decentralized approach to data assets management.

Use cases
Imagine a sales team at your organization. They use certain reports for the purposes of prospecting, and use specialized, company-specific terms. Whenever a new sales employee is onboarded, they have to be sent an extensive list of links and cross-references to familiarize themselves with company workflows. A solution would be creating a Sales Business Domain, grouping all of those assets in one place.
Partial permissions
Now imagine, that the same sales team hires an external consultant to help them prepare a plan for a large business deal. Obviously you'd want the consultant to have easy access to all data needed to aid her in carrying out the task, while at the same time restricting her access to other sensitive data used by the team.
A good solution to this problem would be creating an Area within the Sales Business Domain, that houses only data relevant for the deal. If the consultant was given access to that Area, she would be able to view only the objects linked to that Area and its children, but would not be able to access the other elements in the Sales Business Domain.
