Generate AI descriptions for KPIs

In this article you'll see how to generate and manage AI descriptions for terms and KPIs in Dataedo Portal. You'll also see detailed instructions for editing and saving descriptions, integrating with Dataedo Desktop, and covers necessary permissions and optimization tips.

Generate AI Descriptions

1. Click the caret next to the icon to select available AI engines.
2. Select the engine.
3. Click the icon and wait for descriptions to generate.

Edit and save AI-generated descriptions

1. Click the icon to edit the description.
2. Use one of the buttons at the bottom depending on what you want to do:
   • Save to AI description: Save to a dedicated AI description field.
   • Save to description: Save to a regular description field.
   • Discard: Discard the generated text.

You can browse AI-generated descriptions in Dataedo Portal (in a dedicated field) and Dataedo Desktop (in a dedicated tab).

You can save the AI description to the regular Description field clicking the Save to description button.

AI-generated descriptions in the overview tab

If you save the description using Save to AI description option, a new tile labeled AI Generated Description will appear on the overview page for the table, view, or column.

Now, you can:

• Keep the AI-generated text as-is.
• Copy the AI-generated text and paste it to the Description section (clicking the icon when hovering on it).
• Delete the AI-generated description by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner and selecting Delete.

AI descriptions from Dataedo Desktop

To generate AI descriptions, make sure you configured the AI Autodocumentation feature in the Dataedo Portal. You can also initiate generation from Dataedo Desktop by linking it with Dataedo Portal (see Configure Open in Dataedo Portal).

Generate descriptions in Dataedo Desktop

To generate AI descriptions for terms and KPIs in Dataedo Desktop:

1. Right-click the AI description field in the grid (terms and KPIs only).
2. Select Generate AI description in Dataedo Portal.

No available descriptions

If there are no AI-generated descriptions, you can generate them from the AI description tab on the object overview:

1. Open the AI description tab on the object overview.
2. Click Generate AI description in Dataedo Portal.

This link is visible only if no AI description is generated. If an AI description exists, right-click and select Generate AI description in Dataedo Portal.

After selecting Generate AI description in Dataedo Portal, the AI generated descriptions window will open in Dataedo Portal. Follow the Edit and saving the AI-generated descriptions section above.

Useful tips

tip

If the generated text is unrelated to the term or KPI, link it to other related terms. For example, link Rental to Movie to generate descriptions related to movie rentals.
